Still Alive

I'm still alive and kicking just been spending time with the family as well as doing a bit of reading. As you can tell from my side bar list of books. Plus I've been watching some rather interesting movies.

Problems

Right now I'm having some major problems with my writing. This is something that has been going on for over a year now. At first I thought it was writer's block but it wasn't and it isn't. Then I thought it was self doubt but when I look back at what I've written over the years it wasn't and isn't that either.

Then I got to thinking that my problem with writing is because I had more than one story going at a time, nope. I thought my problem might be not knowing enough about my craft. Well, a writer can never know too much about their craft and there is always room for improvement. So those weren't my reason for not writing either.

I have been dabbling in different genres as well to see what suited my mood of writing. I happen to like a lot of different genres. I read a lot so isn't that I'm not finding inspiration to jot down a tale. I have no trouble coming up with ideas.

A couple of years ago I had a couple of things published. I was thrilled even though it didn't last long because the pub houses went out of business.One publishing house I had no trouble with, everything was handled very professional. The other one on the other hand was AWFUL. There ended up being a lot of bad blood between the authors and the publisher which then in turn went up and beyond. Then the authors started turning on each other. It just all left a very bad taste in my mouth. I walked away from the publishing world for awhile.

Truly, I think that is when my problems started. I have been trying to get back into my writing. I use to eat, drink, sleep and live to write. And now it isn't. I've lost that passion. I'm not even able to write poetry anymore. The poem on my website is the ONLY ONE I wrote last year.

I truly feel as if this part of me has died. I can't lie to myself anymore. Nothing I try to write works. It hasn't been for a very long time. I keep trying to tell myself that I can work through this but instead I end up at a dead end. How do you come back from something like this?

I don't know if this can be fixed.......

Back To Work

Today it's been back to work on my writing. The story I'm working on isn't a CR (Christain Romance) but it will be one that I have a feeling will get published when it's finished. The story is going to take me awhile to finish but hopefully I'll have the rough draft completed by the end of the year.

I do have some research to do. I'm setting this tale in Tx during the civil war period. It's also got time traveling in it. It should prove to be a very interesting story. I've already come to like Gail, Eli, my main characters. Right now I'm typing up the first chapter onto the computer. I'm hoping by the time I'm done with this, it'll be 20 chapters long.

1.What are you enjoying in your publishing journey?

I'm enjoying learning about my craft and getting the chance to become acquainted with various fellow authors of the writing industry.

2.What great books have you read lately?

I recently discovered Irene Hannon, who is a Christain author. I enjoy romance books of all kind but I've been wanting something more, something that regular mainstream romance wasn't providing. That ended up being the spiritual element. Rainbow's End was indeed worth every moment of reading.

3.What really cool people in publishing have you met?

I haven't had the chance to meet anyone face to face since moving to Texas in the industry but am hoping that will change.

4.What do you like about writing?

I like being able to conjure up other people, places, events and bring them to life for others. I enjoy Happily Ever After Endings. I hope that soon others will get the chance to understand just how much I enjoy writing when I get my books published.

Today I have been working on setting up a website. It's just in the bare bones segment for now. I have the welcome page and questbook up. And it's done in my favorite color, green. I'm actually looking around at some other websites to get an idea of what to include on mine. Yet, at the same time I want it to be unique, all my own.

I've managed to revise one chapter on a rough draft today. :-) Cleaning it up, deleting unneccessary words such as that, and, was. Plus working on eliminating my LYs, which this mss is littered with, shudders.

It's a slow process but it is coming along.

Going Through Work

I have been looking through all of my story ideas, through old stories, ones half way finished to see what I have.

I now have all of my work back on the computer. I'm going through one story and seeing if a revision is possible.

I've also been doing some reading on how to write a Christain Romance. I'm learning so much from this book, more so than ones I've read on the craft under general romance. I have also been collecting CR stories. I find myself leaning more towards these stories. They are more complex to me, have much more depth and feeling.

I think I may just try my hand at this genre.

I guess my work wasn't accepted by the publisher because the due date has come and passed and still no word. Oh well it happens.

I know I haven't been writing here much but I've been sick with the flu.

Needless to say, I haven't been getting in any writing time either because of being ill.

Working

I've been working on a new story idea. It's a paranormal. So far it is going good. I'm half way to 2000 words already. :-)

But I need to do a bit of research for this story simply because I use angels. It should prove interesting to see where my two main characters Priest and Merci end up. I'm not so sure how much work I'll get done this weekend because the kids get out of school early tomorrow and and then off the weekend. They have a 4 day weekend again.

I have managed to come up with a title for this story: Dark Echoes.
